Accelerated Literacy (AL) pedagogy is an approach to language and literacy instruction. It makes explicit the ways of talking, viewing, thinking, reading, writing and spelling that are part of being literate in western culture.
The AL teaching and learning routine helps you scaffold your students to engage with language, meaning and print. It also supports you as a teacher, helping you plan and organise your instruction.
The AL approach is consistent with the aims and the content of the Australian English Curriculum; and with the concept of a balanced literacy program.
If you are working with a whole school literacy strategy you will find that AL pedagogy offers you and your colleagues a common language and a shared pedagogical framework for cross-curriculum language and literacy planning.
You can find more information about using the AL pedagogy here.
