Nice example of a literate discussion in an Aboriginal school

Paula Fahey is a Year 2 classroom teacher from Fraser Park Primary School in Murray Bridge. The enrolment is 95% Aboriginal. She sent us this anecdote:

We were reading the instructions for making Fried Rice.At the end Adol, aged 8, said 'Why is this writing so bossy?' I asked her what made it bossy and she said 'Because it says to serve immediately!' We then talked about why it had to be written like that and what would happen if we didn't serve it immediately. It wasn't meant to be bossy, just to make sure we got to eat it before it got soggy! Another student, Amio, said it could have said 'Enjoy!' at the end to be nicer. Very interesting thinking.

Thanks Paula, we love to hear the good news stories.
