ALPAA

Accelerated Literacy Practitioners' Association Australia

Welcome from Bronwyn Parkin, ALPAA Chairperson

Dear Accelerated Literacy practitioners,

Welcome to our new ALPAA website, dedicated to stimulating and thought provoking professional learning for educators committed to improving literacy outcomes for our most disadvantaged learners. The association means that our important work in learning how to effectively scaffold learners in language and literacy can continue here, without being at the mercy of the political ebb and flow of the jurisdictions in which we work.

Over the next couple of years, we are planning different types of professional learning presentations, from those in real time via the net, to face-to-face, to longer online courses. (We know that you all want text notes, and we'll do what we can!) There's lots of interesting work still to be done: integrating what we know with the Australian Curriculum, more serious work on spelling, assessment, scaffolding in the learning areas other than English... I look forward to some interesting conversations.

I'd like to acknowledge the hard work of the volunteer committee, all AL practitioners themselves, in getting to this point. They are spread from Perth, Esperance, Darwin,Townsville, Sydney, Canberra, Maldon, and Melbourne to Adelaide. They have given many hours, and endured the frustrations of technology and time differences to meet and plan.

Now let the fun begin!

Regards, Bronwyn
